  • Archery Team Sponsor: Mrs. Hernandez

    Meets Weekly in Horizon gym on Thursdays from 3:00-4:00pm

    Archery Club is for 4th and 5th Grade students only. They emphasize the use of personal equipment ($190 Genesis Original Bow)

    Practices begin October 16, 2025, and continue through to March 2026.

    Club Fee: $80 (includes T-shirt)

  • Bucket Drumming Club Sponsor: Mrs. Truesdail

    Bucket Drumming Club is closed for the 25-26 school year. All spots have been filled. 

    Club begins on September 9, 2025

    The Bucket Drumming Club is for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. Bucket Drumming teaches students to work as a team to play music together on drums made of buckets. All music is written specifically for our students by Mrs. Truesdail.

    Campus Clean Up

    Would you like to help keep Horizon looking awesome? Join Horizon's Campus Clean Up Club! We will meet once a month to pick up trash and clean an area of the school. This club is open to all grades Kindergarten through 5th!

    We will meet on the first Monday of every month after school until 3:45. Our first meeting will be September 8, 2025 after school. 

    We will meet rain or shine. If it is raining, we will work inside and help our custodians with trash collection and cleaning different areas of the school. 

    Equipment needed: Child Sized Gardening Gloves. Closed toe shoes preferred.

  • Debate Team Sponsor: Mrs. Goodloe
    The Horizon Debate Team can help students develop communication and persuasion skills, and learn about current events, civics, and political science. Students can participate in team debates and one MCS competition in March, and practice techniques such as speech, persuasion, and critical thinking.

    This club is open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.

    The first club meeting will be on September 11, 2025.

  • Drama Club Sponsors: Ms. Chance, Mrs. Hoop, Mrs. Ruh, and Mrs. Kilgore
    Drama Club is an after-school extracurricular activity for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students designed to engage students in the performing arts and theatre.

    Drama Club encourages creativity, public speaking, dramatization, movement, risk-taking, and social skills.  The final result is a wonderful performance in the spring. Previous shows include "Candy Kingdom", "Pan!", "Cinderella", "Snow White", and "Little Red." Students gain a sense of pride and accomplishment when they hear that, much deserved, applause!

    Meets weekly on Wednesdays at dismissal during the spring semester. 

    We have not had drama club sign ups yet. Be looking for information late in the fall semester, on ParentSquare. We will take applications, and send out audition times to students who apply.

    Are you interested in being an EA (Eagle Ambassador)?

    Eagle Ambassadors is for 4th and 5th grade students. EAs will be the "face" of Horizon taking special guests on tours of our school and speaking at school-wide assemblies. EAs will serve as role models for younger students and showcase what it means to be a leader.

    Eagles Sing is dedicated to fostering a love for music among our 4th and 5th grade students. Through engaging rehearsals and performances, it aims to develop a love of singing and confidence in its members.

  • Eagle News Network Morning Show Sponsors: Ms. Walden and Ms. Hess
    ENN is a team of 4th and 5th Graders who will film a weekly morning announcements show that will air on Friday mornings.

    Students must complete this application, have one teacher recommendation, and audition with Ms. Walden and Ms. Hess depending on the desired position. Applications are due September 10th.

    Students will meet on Monday's after school until 4:00 pm to film the morning show. Every student MUST be picked up in the carline at 4:00. Late pickup could result in dismissal from the team.

    Students will complete tasks such as writing weekly announcements, delivering morning announcements to the school, and interviewing students and faculty.

    A character contract must be signed and followed through in order to be part of this club. Please contact Ms. Walden or Ms. Hess for more information.

    Student 2 Student

    Established in Madison City Schools in 2016, Student 2 Student™ (S2S™) is designed to increase awareness of and address school transitions affecting mobile school students through a faculty-led and student-engaged model.

    Military kids move 6-9 times during their K-12 education, and change schools 3X more often than their civilian peers.

    We are excited to announce that FCA will begin in September at Horizon! It will be open to all Horizon students.

    This club is designed to bring our students closer to Jesus Christ by teaching and practicing everyday truths from His Word. FCA is a voluntary club. We will meet, pray, read from the word of God, fellowship with other believers, and hear a lesson presented by a local minister. Our goals are to demonstrate Christ-like wholeness, privately, and publicly, to model Jesus' example of serving, to express our unity in Christ in all relationships, and to honor and glorify God in all we do. This group is non-denominational and only focuses on the basic truths found in the Bible.

    FCA will begin with See You At The Pole on Wednesday, September 24th at 7:10 AM.
    We will have our next meeting on Wednesday, October 22nd at 7:10 AM in the Horizon Library. Huddles (meetings) will be held monthly.
    A Parent/Guardian MUST park and walk their child to the front doors at Horizon. A club sponsor will be at the doors to welcome them. Doors will open at 7:00 AM.

  • Horizon Grows Club Sponsors: Ms. Morgan and Ms. Mittman
    The Horizon Grows Club is a fun and exciting place for students in first through fifth grade to explore the world of plants and nature! Students will gather to learn about growing/tending plants and participate in outdoor exploration on campus. They will plant seeds, water flowers, create natural art, and learn about the environment. 

    Our first meeting will be Tuesday, October 14th. We will meet the first Tuesday of each month after school until 3:45. 

    Club limit is 20 students. Please email zjmorgan2@madisoncity.k12.al.us if your child is interested.

  • Safety Patrol Sponsor: Mr. Durham
    Horizon is excited to continue the Safety Patrol Program. The primary purpose of the program is to enhance the safety of our students during school hours. In addition, this program will promote the development of leadership skills, good citizenship qualities, and safety throughout our school. 

    The Safety Patrol team will monitor students in the hallway. Safety Patrol students will ensure students walk throughout the school building during morning and afternoon duty, ensure students are not using electronic devices (cell phones, tablets, etc.), and assist teachers by monitoring students in the cafeteria, gym, hallways, etc. 

    *Open to 3rd-5th grades.

    First day: September 24, 2025

    Requirements"

    Must be able to be at school by 7:10 or 7:20 am and stay until 2:45 or 3 pm. 

    Must complete pre-enrollment form.

    Madison City Friends is an organization dedicated to establishing a volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

    Running Club is for 3rd-5th grade girls and boys. We focus on self-confidence, team building and conflict resolution skills all while having fun and being outside. Meetings are the 2nd Monday of the month from 2:45-4pm. 

  • Walk in Your You! is a confidence-building club for 4th and 5th grade girls. They will learn to embrace their true voice, stand strong in who they are, and shine with courage and purpose, because the world needs the real YOU!
