   Mrs. Bero has an MA in Special Education/Gifted from the University of South Florida; a BA in Elementary Education/Early Childhood with a minor in science from Wilson College in North Carolina. Prior to coming to Alabama, she certified in Junior High School math and science.
She has taken part in many teacher's workshops in the areas of gifted, environmental education, technology and consumer education.



     Mrs. Bero has been Horizon's Gifted Specialist since 2003, working with 90-100 gifted students in grades 3-6.  Her students help decide the direction of the program each year.  Students may choose to study environmental issues in the Eco-Kid program, run the school store and learn about investment in Economics class, or study architecture, forensics, ancient cultures, foreign languages or accelerated math subjects. Mrs. Bero added a 3D printer and Maker's Space class to the mix in 2016. Mrs. Bero was proud to be Horizon's Teacher of the Year in 2011-2012.  Before coming to Madison City, Mrs. Bero taught in Huntsville at the Academy for Science and Foreign Language as their Gifted Specialist. Other prior experience includes teaching third grade, fifth grade and then Earth Science and Pre-algebra in the Gifted Sixth Grade program in Hillsborough County, Florida.  She also taught at Nova University in Tampa, for Kid's College at UAH, as a Camp Invention summer camp teacher. Mrs. Bero also worked in Education/Public Outreach for NASA and spent ten years as the education director for the Von Braun Astronomical Society.  Mrs. Bero currently volunteers as a planetarium presenter at the VBAS planetarium in Huntsville, and is a singer and musician in her church choir.  Mrs. Bero served on the writing team for Alabama's new accelerated curriculum in mathematics and won recognition for her environmental education program, receiving the Best Environmental Curriculum Award for 2015 from the Environmental Educator's Association of Alabama.



Mr. and Mrs. Bero have three children, who all attended Horizon from kindergarten through sixth grade. All three graduated from Bob Jones High School and either currently attend or have graduated from different state universities.
